De-Stressing with Post-it Sketching

A few years ago I stumbled on a simple way to de-stress. You can do it anywhere, as long as you have the common office supply known as the post-it note. It’s as simple as it sounds. Just take a few minutes out of your busy day, pick up a pen or pencil, peel off a sticky note, and see what you can do!

I tend to enjoy drawing nature; things like trees, mountains, and landscapes.

But you could doodle anything, from geometric shapes,

to comic book characters to entertain your kids (or encourage them to wear their glasses).

You can tell these have been handled by small hands (Image by Author)

The key is to relax. Don’t think about anything going on around you, just breathe deep and focus on the pencil and paper. You might be surprised by what you create.

Who knows what part of my subconscious these came from. Stairs? (Image by Author)

Since sticky notes usually aren’t too big, it shouldn’t take more than five to ten minutes to complete. I typically write the date on the back so I can see how I improve. Knowing exactly what day you did a particular sketch helps to reflect on a previous time in your life.

Add some ink to make your sketches stand out. (Image by Author)

Sometimes you might get carried away…

But when you’re finished, you’ll have a picture that will make someone’s day.

Isn’t that sweet. (Image by Author)

Thanks for reading!
